Okay, Sandi. Give it some thought and let me know. Hope your MIL is doing well. Not always an easy thing to have to care for our aging parents.
Alexei,
This is the Natural Treatments section, so you'll find a variety of alternative therapies discussed on here. There are quite a few that talk about various people's experiences with using it. Homeopathy is a very interesting study, and I've used it successfully with all kinds of things. I like it because it doesn't have all the side effects that come with most treatments, as well as it really works to bring the entire body back into health and balance. It works with the electro-magnetic field of the body, so it is an 'energy' medicine, akin to acupuncture or Reiki (though I find it deeper acting and faster acting than either of those.)
I used homeopathy for my then 12-year-old daughter, when she was unresponsive to WinRho or IVIG, which is what her hemas used. She had very bad reactions to both, including two episodes of anaphalactic shock. Her platelets stayed in the
< 10k range, often < 5k. Once I figured out the best homeopathic remedy for her, she went from 11k to 411k in 4 days time, and she has stayed in the high ranges for almost 7 years now. Besides the platelets getting back to normal, the remedy had a very transformational affect on virtually every other aspect of her. You can read her story if you go to the Natural Treatments section of the Original Forum, and it is under a thread called "Homeopathic Doctor".
I explain a lot about homeopathy on that thread.
But, there are also others that have used it that sometimes post on here, too.
As far as doing homeopathy at a distance, it's not exactly the same as doing an energy treatment like Reiki or Cranial Sacral Therapy at a distance. The remedy is physically sent to you to take, but, sometimes, maybe because there's not a homeopath near you, or maybe not one that you care for or whatever, the case taking is done by Skype or by phone or by email. It's not the ideal, as being seen in person would be, but it still works relatively well. I believe it's likely easier for a practitioner who has a lot of experience with seeing patients in person, than it would be for someone who was relatively inexperienced. If at a distance, the onus also falls on you to accurately give the homeopath adequate information. Photos and videos are also often requested.
But, if you can find someone good, locally, I would recommend you go that route, for best results. You may want to check with friends and acquaintances to see if any of them have had good or bad experiences with a particular homeopath. And, I'd also suggest scheduling a 15-20 minute intro to the homeopath, to see if you feel comfortable with him/her. Most homeopaths are happy to do this free of charge or for a nominal fee. It's an intimate relationship, so if you don't feel comfortable for any reason, look for someone else. Don't invest your money and time if you don't feel comfortable.
Styles and practices vary greatly, so don't let one color your opinion of the whole bunch. I would recommend finding a classically trained homeopath, rather than someone who relies on some fancy machine or relies on pendulums or muscle testing alone, to choose a remedy. While there might be some out there that have a special sense in that regard, I've found for the most part, those who rely on these are not well-versed in the basics, and rarely have consistently good results. I'd also stay away from those who prescribe combination or complex remedies, or have you taking multiple remedies at one time. You should not be asked to invest in a bunch of expensive supplmments. Classical homeopathy uses one remedy at any given time. And, it should be selected for you, specifically, and not just given on the name of a disease or diagnosis. (For example, there are no specific, universal remedies given for ITP--it should be one chosen for your unique pattern of symptoms, many of which you will likely not relate to your ITP at all, but are important for the homeopath to take into account. This seems to be a really difficult concept for most people to grasp. There is no 'magic bullet' pill. Response can be very quick or very dramatic, but it can just as often be gradual and you might have to have patience. In general, those who have had few or no suppressive drugs, will heal the fastest. Prednisone, in particular, really slows the body's healing mechanism down--not impossible, but slower. So, patience is a virtue at times.)
I wish you the best,
April
