Hello Everyone,
I havent been on the site for a while..I have been on Promacta for about a year..I really need everyones help..my counts have been holding 60-100 ..but I noticed early on when I took it I had joint pain..so I took it at night at bed time...I was having a little problem sleeping so I started to take a sleep aid..recently..I decided I was going to stop taking the sleep aid..and when I stopped I remembered why I took it in the first place..to sleep through the joint pain...of what I believe was caused by the promacta..ughhh..there never seems to be a silver bullet with meds..has any one heard of this side affect with promacta...I dont know what to do..should i take one pain killer at night and no sleep aid..or just continue the sleep aid,,what a choice..ughh what would you do..I know if I quit taking the Promacta Ill drop down to nothin..the joint pain is a pain..lol...I even dream in my sleep about going to the hospital to get help..is there any natural remedies out there that work..i hate to go from one pill to the next...

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

I don't know if Promacta-caused joint pain would respond to the same treatments as arthritic joint pain, but you might try heat and cold-- warm packs and ice packs. At least they don't have terrible side effects.

Gentle exercise in water also helps me.

If I'm not sleeping because of my joint pain, I do sometimes take a pain-killer (Ultram) or a sleep aid (Ambien). Not at the same time. I think if you don't take those pills regularly, they are less likely to do you harm.
