Promacta and migraines

Promacta and migraines was created by ret9
Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with ITP in May. My counts are great at 277K after a couple months of being on Promacta. I started to get migraines soon after starting the Promacta, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced that. I am having several migraines a week. My hematologist says it is not a known side effect of the Promacta, but it seems weird to only have started after beginning treatment with the Promacta. Thanks for the help!

I think migraines would concern me since you have a lot of new, sticky platelets and counts that are pretty high. Can you talk to the doctor about lowering the dose?

Did you have migraines prior to Promacta?

I've had migraines since 1974. I have a script for Imitrex to treat them.
I've also been on Promacta for the past 8 months: 75mg/day max dosage.
I have had exactly 3 migraines since January. Prior to that, I averaged 2-3 migraines every month.
Another case of 'everyone is different' I suppose.

I had maybe 2 migraines before the Promacta. My hematologist didn't seem overly concerned when I saw her last Friday. I made an appointment with a neurologist in a couple of weeks, and I will see what he says. Hopefully I will have some answers soon.

You may want to ask your doctor about Imitrex.
Everyone is different for certain, but Imitrex is a common treatment for severe migraines. Knocks 'em right out (for me) and doesn't give (me) any adverse side-effects. It's the only migraine drug I have found to be 100% for me.

I was prescribed Imitrex, and it does work; I am mostly worried about the frequency. I get on average 3 a week. I hope I can find the cause and not have to take medicine. I really don't want to have to take another medicine.
