Hi all,
Have been on the side lines for a few months, due to family & house building commitments.
Friday I woke with a blood nose that wouldn't stop. Obviously I had gotten a bit run down, off to hospital (2 hours in ambulance), platelets 9, nose sprayed, cauterized & plugged, platelet transfusion, put in cardiac ward due to lack of beds, 40 mg. steroids, platelets up to 20, then Octagam infusion over 3 days. Platelets up to 137. Refused more steroids :P , cocaine up my nose, morphine down my throat - :woohoo: Was under the care of both ENT & Haematology teams, 9/10 who didn't speak English.
Home now, with my beautiful family, feel like I have been hit by a truck, but all good. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I had a very warm bath Thursday night which probably set things off. . I feel fortunate that it was only a nose bleed. Sure don't want to repeat the little adventure.
After nearly 6 years of <30> I think I need to find a supportive Haematologist to monitor things. Someone who is not arrogant & patronizing, & who respects my beliefs - is there such a person??
Cheers from Down Under

6 weeks on - counts slowly going down. Initial boost got them in the 400's, then 200's, 3 week plateau at 120, then halved to 60 this week.
My Physician mentioned some people have good response with 3 treatments - seems to shock some sense into the immune system. ?
Next appointment is in 2 weeks - I need an answer to his question of "if not your spleen, then what"?
Meanwhile, the sun is shining, we are cutting hay & my 5 little grandsons are thriving.

Dear Meridethjane,

You said you need an answer to you doctor, for, "If not your spleen, than what?"
Have you ever tried or considered being treated by a classical homeopath? (And, I am not talking about taking a bunch of vitamins/minerals, herbs or supplements!)
I am a homeopath, and after treating my own daughter with homeopathy, she has been in remission for over 6 years, now, her counts going from 11k to 411k in 4 days, with a simple homeopathic remedy. (Her story is in the Original Forum section, under
Natural Treatments, then under the thread called Homeopathic Doctor.)

Since that time, I've treated a number of other patients with ITP of varying severity, with similar results to my daughter's. We don't treat the disease, per se, but treat the general state of the person, instead. It's non-toxic; safe for anyone to use, even babies or pregnant women; is not painful, difficult or complicated to take; will not interfere with any other treatments, as it does not act at the chemical level, but instead acts on the energetic level; the correctly chosen remedy will act on your entire being, at the physical, mental and emotional levels, so that you will see positive changes in many other areas besides your platelet levels. It is very economical, the medicine itself is negligible. The main expense is in paying for the time and the expertise of the homeopath, which is still minimal compared to conventional medicine.
And...best of all, it is very effective. All of the patients I've treated for ITP so far, have seen marked improvement within a few days to 2 months.

In Australia, there are quite a few very good homeopaths. I have no idea if there are any close to you, but you may want to consider looking for one. There's a popular homeopathic forum called hpathy.com. On their General Discussion forum (Icon of the two heads), you will find a homeopath who frequently posts, named Brisbanehomeopath (or, David Kempson). He is an excellent practitioner. I think you may be some distance from him, but I know he teaches, and may be able to refer you to someone good in your area. It might be worth contacting him.

There are still some options, better options by far, that are out there. Don't limit yourself or give up hope.

Thank you April. I initially consulted a naturopath 6 years ago, & did the gluten/dairy free for 5 years.
I have strongly defended my spleen & am adverse to toxic chemical treatments. I appreciate they are necessary for some but ITP is such an unknown.
I have a friend who uses homeopathy & I will ask her for some advice.
By the way, Brisbane is in Queensland - a bit far  but I appreciate the information.

Dear merideth,

Many people confuse homeopathy with naturopathy, and they are NOT the same thing. What I'm talking about has nothing to do with any kind of diet. Homeopathy is a 200-year-old form of medicine that stands on it's own merit. It's so simple that it's difficult for most to believe that something that's so painless and pleasant could possibly be medicinal. Yet, it is. I regularly have patients come to me who have struggled and suffered for years, trying everything imaginable, very often, naturopathic treatment, with still no change. Many will respond to homeopathic treatment in just a matter of hours or days. There are some naturopaths that use homeopathy, but many, if not most of them, have only a very little training in it (typically, they only receive 3-6 months of education in homeopathy, which to know in depth requires at bare minimum, 3-5 YEARS!)
Here's a link to the thread I was speaking of earlier. There's a lot more information there: discuss.pdsa.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23985&whichpage=1

I know the homeopath I told you about on a professional level, as well, he's treated a relative I have in Australia. He does the kind of homeopathy I am talking about. I know you're at some distance, but you can still contact him, and, as I said, since he teaches, he should know who's good in your area. I would trust his opinion on that. At least give him a call.(BTW, he knows me as Avril from the Hpathy site).

Just for interest - had an 8 week check up with Physician, platelets in 60's, allowed monthly blood tests :cheer:
Wants me to consider spleen removal, as I respond to treatment. Don't want to go there . . .

I don't blame you. Isn't responding to treatment a good thing and a reason to be able to keep your spleen?

Down to 38 this week - oh dear.
Just hope we can get our harvest done & Christmas celebrations over before I go much lower.
No sleeveless dress for Christmas, I'm a mess of bruises & wheat stubble scratches.

ohhh, I'm sorry our dropped, but 38 is a very do-able number! I'm believing you'll get done what you need to.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
