Rituximab and furry little creatures. was created by Michelle
Had my first infusion and right beforehand, Hemo explained that the reason that people have allergic reactions during the infusion process is because the drug is taken from RODENTS and that's why some people's bodies reject it.

I had a physical reaction about an hour and a half into it. Difficult to breathe a little so they stopped it and gave me some extra Bendryl - after it started back up again, I was totally fine.

But at night, when I was at home, the psychological reaction started. I was thinking about the rodents and putting that into my body and I got all queasy and wanted to barf.

One infusion down, three to go and I reeeeeeeeally hope this works.
Ahh, the joys of modern medicine and the things we do for ITP.

I think I'm going to tell Hemo to say "cute little mouses" the next time he explains it to someone - instead of rodents.
Very different visual, don't you think?

LOL! I remember when my hemo told me that it was "taken from mice, so you might crave cheese afterwards..." She was obviously kidding, but given my state of mind, love for cheese, and prednisone dosage, I'm sure I ate my share of cheese afterwards! Good luck! I hope it works well for you! My fingers are crossed for you! :0)

I knew that going in and accepted it. It's just the genes or DNA (I forget), not the whole mouse. Don't think about it.

I found out last night that I have a real mouse in my house. Now that is freaking me out! I've only ever had that once before....ewwww.

LOL, I knew that going in too. I figured if it's gonna work it will be ok. It's not like it was something I had to eat! Oh, and we have mice too. But we live in basically the woods! An outside cat helps that.

Expensive perfume is made from whale vomit, and beef is dead cows and red dyes are from beetle shells.

I don't mind mice and feel bad when we have to trap them. Just don't use the sticky traps, they are awful. Kill them straight with the old timey kind.

Okay Okay Okay -
I know we interact with a lot of gross stuff that we don't even know about.

You have to admit though, "rodents" is a really yucky visual.
But heck, if it works, bring on the swine, locusts and boogers, for all I care. :)

I have to have a sense of humor right now or I would be crying. I just noticed the biggest blister on the inside of my cheek that I've ever had.
I was at 20 this week and I know it takes Rituximab awhile if it is going to kick in.
I just hope I don't tank completely.

I'll be dreaming of platelets tonight.

Oh we got traps. My husband and son couldn't find the peanut butter, so they used MARSHMALLOWS. Say what? I opened the pantry and found a brand new jar of peanut butter. Ta da! See what happens when you LOOK?

I don't feel bad. They are dirty and creepy and invading my space.

Sandi,
There's now a neat clean white plastic trap with a red lever by Ortho Home Defense. You can get them at Home Depot. There's a neat, clean, bait reservoir for the peanut butter. The mouse crawls inside, and, theoretically, you never have to see him. You know it worked if the door closed. When we first moved into our old home in the country, a mouse surprised my mom while she was putting in shelf paper in my pantry. The next day, I was standing in the Kroger with 14 mousetraps of various types and sizes when my daughter's brilliant and very EarthMother science teacher gave me "the look." She said there had been a mouse in her home, but she figured it was his world first, so she could share. I told her I just don't share some things! Came home and told my daughter her science teacher now knew she had a mouse murderer for a mom.

Norma - too funny!

Michelle - one day at a time. Rituxan sometimes works in the first four weeks, so you might get a break soon.
