Tapering Pred.. wish me luck! was created by JazzenJanzen
So for three weeks on 60mg, the highest I got was 95.. then a drop of pred to 50mg = a count drop to 42.. but the next week was only 35.
So against the recommendation of almost everyone I know, I dropped the pred again to 40mg.. and my count was 38 this week! WHOOT! B)
So I'm going to 30mg and seeing what happens...cause you just don't know till you try.

Really though.. the Prednisone has destroyed my life. I have lost SO much work because of it!!! (I'm a pianist/accompanist).. and school is absolute mess..missing classes cause I'm SO out of it and can't focus.. And my life in general... it's all just shot to hell... So I need to get this drug out of my life!

I'm a little nervous.. I FINALLY got a hematologist, but my appointment isn't until May 18th! (good grief!).. So I'm on my own (still) until then... I am my own hema for now.

I'll be watching my body like a hawk.

*Fingers crossed!* B)

I wish you the BEST of luck.

For me, I think the worst part is when you go between 20mg - 10mg. Somewhere in there it gets messy. But unfortunately not in a clear defined way. The first time, I had body aches, the second time I got to that range, I cried over spilled milk and no body aches.

I know what you mean about not being able to focus. I described as being in a carousel and being distracted by the new scenery every 15 - 20 seconds. However that goes away with lower doses. One thing that I found that worked for me was forcing my brain to think rather than letting it enjoy the carousel ride. I wrote more, i do quite a bit of computation for work every day, so I made a point to write stuff down rather than trying to do math in my head.

Good luck with your taper it will get easier.

I just wanted to wish you luck! I'm probably going to be starting Prednisone soon and it's tough seeing how so many people here have struggled with it. Hopefully things get better for you!

Oh man! I HATE Prednisone so so so very much. Sorry to hear you're going on it.. Hope it works for you better than it did for me!!

I'm currently on the hunt for more natural routes to get my count up (or rather, fix the over active immune system). I just don't believe my immune system up and starts going after my platelets without some kind of cause.. but that's just me.

If I knew now what I knew a mouth and a half ago when the doctors through 60mg of Pred at me, I would have said "NO!". Too late now! Lesson learned for me. But that's my own experience... and everyone's bodies react differently. I have EVERY side effect, including mild hallucination. Bah!

Lorna, some people don't suffer as much from pred as others. I have been one of the lucky ones. It also helps to have a calm hematologist, one who is willing to prescribe lower doses. Karen R
