Meredith, by supplemental insurance do you mean 'Prescription Benefit Plan' or PDP? Not sure, isn't there a bunch of screw ball costing rules for them? There is a list of PDPs and Promacta costs on this page.
www.goodrx.com/promacta/medicare-coverage

I've looked at this before, briefly. Seems like it was 7 or so thousand total for a year's supply of 25mg tabs. Not sure.

If you poke around some, you should find some other links for patient assistance programs.

Meredith, are you currently taking Promacta or still trying Nplate or are you simply figuring out which treatment to try next? Nplate and Promacta are billed differently. Promacta is billed as a prescription and Nplate as a medical procedure since it's an injection given at a medical office. One is not better than the other. It's a matter of what works for you.

As Hal mentioned there are patient assistance programs. You or your doctor can contact the drug companies and/or drug assistance programs.

Meredith, some prefer Promacta. Others prefer Nplate.

If medicare paid for Nplate and they started to allow self injection, that would be a real nice low cost way to do it.
