Just off hand. My guess would be that Eltrombopag just enables the immune system to see more examples of platelets that don't have the Flu virus on them. That platelets don't need to be destroyed because they are now just 'self' and no longer self plus Flu virus on them. Simply, any drug which elevates counts helps.
