I have not been able to find a definitive answer on this. I take Promacta and I know it can be hard on the liver (my enzymes have been normal for months) and I've had the occasional drink. Is this ok? Obviously I space drinks 4 hours apart from the pill (like any other food.) To those of you on promacta, do you still drink sometimes or should I entirely avoid alcohol?

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

I drink alcohol and I've been on Promacta for over 2 years. I have regular liver function tests. The results have always been normal.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

I don't drink, but I rely rather heavily on Tylenol--which also can work on the liver. So I figure it's good I don't drink. Do you use Tylenol?
