Has anyone had an accessory spleen taken out? If so, what size was it and did it impact your platelet count? I had a splenectomy with 28 years remission but a relapse 2 months ago. I had a scan and I have an accessory spleen. I am now trying to decide whether to have it taken out or not. Any experiences would be really helpful.

My uncle had a splenectomy in 1955 due to chronic childhood ITP, but it may have been a partial one. It did send him into remission and he has not relapsed since. However, he does have a spleen again (most likely accessory). In short, while we're not absolutely certain, it is likely that he has an accessory speen which has not affected his counts.
