  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

I have been on Promacta 4-1/2 weeks, and my platelets are slowly adjusting downwards--in the low 300s now. I'm also on 5 mg pred/day. (I have another posting about that.)

I take 25 mg of Promacta every other day right now. The most "common side effect" that I have is a mild diarrhea--which tends to dehydrate me and wear me out. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know if this is likely to go away after I become used to the drug? Eventually I may have to be on Promacta every day, and I worry the problem will be twice as bad. (Compared to the side-effects I'm currently suffering that apparently are prednisone-related, this Promacta side-effect is tolerable.)
