No, I don't know that Rituxan causes hair to thin. It's not a common complaint. Prednisone does though.

Thanks Sandi,
Maybe is is caused by something else.I am not on prednisone and haven't been for some time so that isn't the culprit. In the great scheme of things, thinning hair is not that important. On a side note I would like to change my user name.I have tried updating my profile and it accepts the new user name and update but it doesn't change it on the forums.Any suggsetions?

Interesting, I checked on uptodate which never mentioned hair loss were as the UK electronic Medicines Compendium (aka the nurses bible ) states hair loss is a common side effect .

It is so hard to tell.I haven't had thinning hair before this (other when I lost it all on chemo for cancer-years ago.My hematologist says fatigue is not a side effect of Rituxin yet many sources say it is.

I had Rituxan in early May. By early October, I had lost at least two thirds of my usual hair thickness. I had started wig shopping when it suddenly just stopped.
Now... Even though Rituxan caused me all kinds of grief, I can't definitely blame it for the hair loss. I had also unintentionally lost 25 lbs. between January and September. That could've caused hair loss, as could've the intense stress from multiple events during that time. Now that the stress is easing and I'm paying closer attention to protein needs, the hair loss rate is back to normal.

I hope your loss will reverse itself soon. It's not an easy thing. Those who say it's not a big thing probably haven't had first-hand experience.

Thank you for your post.I had my Rituxin the same time that you did.I noticed it this month.I hope it comes back like yours did.Like you say those who haven't experienced it may not understand. That's why I like this group so much.May Rituxin continue to worlk for you.It is the treatment that has worked best for me during the close to 30 years I have been dealing with ITP.My only regret is having had my spleen out.It didn't help.Oh well,I have my bloodwork this week -hoping the count is acceptable. Are your numbers good?.

Oh no, I didn't say it worked. I almost immediately went back on NPlate. The only difference now is that I get by with a much smaller dose than before trying Rituxan. My doctor thinks that's the result of Rituxan, but I'm unconvinced. What it did do was give me a raging bout of serum sickness and vestibular neuritis. I can't say it did anything for me except harm. I'm very happy to hear it seems to be treating you better, though!
