My daughter has now had 3 infusions of rituxan for itp. After the first dose, her platelets increased by 160,000 in a week, but then dropped 120,000 the following week. Is this normal? Could the high number have just been an anomaly or even a lab error? I don’t know what to think!

It can take time to adjust. Either way, both counts are good!

I'm not sure if this helps, but my counts tanked ( down to 11k ish) after each rituxan treatment and i was just given some . I did read that lowered counts is a possible side effect of Rituxan. I'm not a doctor but i'm guessing Its possible its just adjustment from that and the exhuastion caused by the Rituxan and the pre-meds. Hopefully they will bump back up. One of the bad parts about Rituxan to me is that it takes so long to see the effects. Most sources i have read say a minimum of 4 weeks.

Thank you for your response. My confusion is that her count of 45, which was propped up by a course of dex a few weeks ago, shot up to 200 after the first course and was down to 80 when we tested before the third dose. Is it normal to have such a roller coaster with the counts?
