Rituxin side Effects-virus or side effects? was created by packh1@yahoo.com
.Hi,
I had first my round of Rituxin Monday.I had an adverse reaction (chills, shaking). They addressed it quickly and I was ready to go on with infusion within an hour.

Tuesday I felt tired and a bit down but no other problems.Wednesday I was fine all day.

Here it is Thursday and I feel like I have a virus,headache,chilly.,diarrhea.slight nausea.

When I look at side effects on drug sites ,it says they are normal .One site stated that if those symptoms are present to call the dr. right away.I tend to think it a virus because I thought side effects are in the first day or two.
Last time I had Rituxin 8 years ago I didn't have side effects.
I will see how I feel in the morning and and if they are worse I will call.Anyone else have trouble determining if feeling ill is just a virus or Rituxin related? Thanks.

Sometimes it's impossible to tell. Either way, all you can do is wait it out until it goes away, or call the Dr. if it gets worse.

I had a rare side effect three weeks after my first infusion. It was serum sickness and always occurs 14 to 21 days after the start of the drug. I went to the ER and that Dr. told me that it was a virus even though I repeatedly told him that I had been having Rituxan treatments. If he'd bothered to look it up, he could have properly diagnosed it so that I wouldn't have had it again the following year. It's a horrible side effect to have (fever, hives, swollen, painful joints, etc).

Thanks.
Steroids are the only treatment for serum sickness and all that does is help the symptoms. It takes 4 to 7 days to go away.
I hope you don't get it either, but if you didn't in the past, it's unlikely that you will.
