prednisone and I can't sleep

I was put on prednisone last week for itp in pregnancy (I'm in my 8th month)
I find I can't sleep at night - I have terrible insomnia

can anything be done? not sure if I can take anything for sleeping due to pregnancy but I can't sleep.
I am on 40 mg of prednisone and I do take it in the morning

Congratulations to making it to the end of your pregnancy and only just now needing the prednisone.
I had three ITP pregnancies and needed to take steroids pretty much all the way through until delivery, so it is great that you have been able to avoid it until the eighth month.
Regarding the sleep, I found that the final month is very difficult for sleep in general because you are so large and uncomfortable. People love to say, "sleep now because you won't get to later," to women in their final trimester, which I always found to be a ridiculous comment. Even women not on prednisone have lots of trouble sleeping toward the end.

I never tried any medications for insomnia, but if you are really getting no sleep at all, you should certainly talk with your OB/GYN to see what might be safe for you to take during pregnancy. Luckily you don't have too long before your delivery, so this will pass quickly.

If your counts are responding well, maybe you can taper to 30 for a while. That might help a bit. Otherwise, there isn't much you can do about it. Insomnia is one of the nasty side effects.

Had my first Rutuxan treatment, second go around, with 40 mg. Predisone , Thurs. Can't sleep but 20-30 min. Will this get better❓

I very much doubt it on 40mg but it will do once you have started tapering. Personally any dose of 20mg or over turns me into a raving insomniac.
Just take quick naps when you need them, little & often I used to nod off in the middle of sentences when I was on a high dose.

I just started my second round of Rutuxan in two years and I know this is part of the problem. Thank goodness I have a supportive husband that helps to keep the house quiet during the day when I do fall asleep.

I can't sleep even on the 10mg prednisone I am on now. Im going to have to take 10mg until May 3 when I will get Rituxan. I take 5mg ambien which I really hate to take but worth it for me.

You say you take 5mg ambien. Does your Dr. prescribe it?

Yes, my hematologist prescribes it as he knows the prednisone makes it hard to sleep.
