How to travel with ITP was created by b2h
Hi. I have tried IVIg, Nplate, promacta and immunosuppresant drugs for ITP. IVIg works in an emergency but only lasts about a week. Promacta didn't work at all. Nplate is the only thing that works, but have to take every week or I crash to 0-2. I hate going to the hospital every week, but right now this is the best option for me. So far the immunosuppresant drugs haven't worked, but still trying.

I would like to take some trips that are 3-4 weeks long. Does anyone have any ideas? I certainly will bring tranexamic acid along, but it isn't a great solution. Single digits still means I have to be careful and I do not feel well. I wish I could self-inject Nplate, but .....

Thank you

If you are traveling domestically and you know ahead of time where you will be on your weekly injection day, I wonder if you could prearrange for your injection out of town, carrying or faxing a prescription? Or prearrange a hematologist appointment. There are probably many hospitals that don't have quick access to Nplate. I will need an answer to this question also. There is always the question of insurance also if you have a policy that punishes out of network care. Nplate is working for me also. Good question to ask your provider, I will be asking mine!

I just found this on the Nplate web page! Through Nplate® Navigator, you can receive assistance in locating a physician who may be able to give you your Nplate® injection while you’re away from home.

You or your healthcare provider can call Nplate® Navigator at 1-855-7Nplate (1-855-767-5283) Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–9:00 PM Eastern Time, and speak to a registered nurse to help locate a physician.

My doctor said receiving Nplate at different location would require a physician in the different location prescirbing and administering the Nplate. It is something to consider if I will be at a different location for an extended period of time. However, I don't think it's feasible for a 2-3 week trip.

Thanks for the info about Nplate Navigator. I will give them and my insurance a call. I'm also trying to figure out how to travel internationally. ITP is really annoying. I keep hoping for remission...

Let me know what info. you find out. Hopefully we can both figure out how to travel and live adventurous lives despite ITP.

Thanks again
