ITP with chronic hives? was created by charrieeve
I'm ITP patient for over 13 years and has a chronic hives. I had my first chronic hives 9-10 years ago which lasted a little over a year. The antihistamines were not working & had to use prednisone for long term period eventually caused me a kneecap athritis when finally weaned off the steroids. Over the years, the hives was on & off in which i was taking doxepin. Beginning Jan 2017, the hives are back & has not quit. It initially responded to antihistamines but when i stopped the medications when the skin are clear or doctor order, the hives comes back & twice as much. After 6 months of taking the antihistamines, the hives is starting to resist & the meds no longer working. Though blood tests, etc were done to find out if there are other things going on as doctors think that i may have other underlying auto immune disease instead of allergies, negative result. This time, the doctor will try Xolair along with allegra, xyzal, zantac & singulair. I will be seeing the allergist soon to administer the Xolair. Does anyone have similar experience that they can share & what medications & length? I'm currently suffering & definitely disturbs my sleeping, work, everyday function or daily living. Even with antihistamines at high dosage, the effect is very little, hives remained & it's very itchy. Having trouble enduring it. Thank you.

Hi- Sorry to hear of your hives. Sounds very difficult and distressing when the meds quit working. The only thing I can suggest is to watch the documentary "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead". It was made by Joe Cross as Australian who also had chronic urticaria. He takes a road trip across the USA and heals his condition through juicing vegetables, kind of a vegan juice diet. Its alternative so not sure you're into that. But even so its a very entertaining, funny, inspiring movie. It has a lot of great information and really motivates me to eat healthier every time I see it. I've had ITP for nine years. good luck! hopefully someone will respond with more info for you!
