My wbc is high a lot my dr says it's cause I have to spleen, I've been on nplate on and off for 5 years does anyone know how often you should have a bone marrow biopsy on nplate? I know it can cause changes but haven't had one since starting nplate

Will be wacthing for replies on this , Keli.

Have never had a marrow biopsy.

Glad you have high count unless it is too high and dangerous for clots. Which is a hard concept for me to get my head around at the moment.

I had a good long talk with my sister. She calls my itp a clotting problem. Didn't quite have the energy to clatify.

Best wishes.

Second Nplate for me in the morning. Hoping for another increase.

Hi i am 21 years old and was diagnosed with itp in 2006. Ive tried many treatments like prednisone, ivig, anti-d, rituxan, and i have had a spleenectomy. Ihave also tried nplate in 2012 and was on it for about 9 months. the last treatment tried was azathioprine an immune suppressant drug in 2013 and lasted up to 2014 because i stopped responding to it. From 2014 to december 2015 ive been treated with alot of prednisone mixed with IVIG but never brought my counts more then 20 000. In january i was sent by air ambulance to a bigger hospital were my hematologist is since i had hemmorage due to a cyst on my ovaries. They then decided to take a bone marrow aspiration and saw what they call bone marrow fibrosis. Since they cannot find a reason or other disorder that caused the fibrosis they now think the Nplate caused it since fibrosis has been seen in people who used nplate long term. Now my only option is a bone marrow transplant which ill be getting in the next 2 months. If not treated quickly enough i will develop leukemia since my bone marrow will eventually stop making all of the blood cells.

Melissa:

Thanks for sharing your story. We have not seen fibrosis yet here on the Forum. A handful of people had early signs of it, but it did reverse once stopping the drug. 9 months isn't a very long time for the TPO's; many people have been using them for years with no signs of fibrosis. Azathioprine can also cause bone marrow fibrosis. What happened to you is fairly rare.

I hope all goes well with the transplant. I'm sorry to hear that you have to go through this.
