Can IVIG effectiveness change over time? was created by jeffj55406
About three years ago I was hospitalized with a platelet count of 2K. The doctor tried IVIG, and it seemed to do nothing. Later that year I had rituximab, and that did work. I had counts above 100K for more than two years. Now, this morning, my count is 12K, down from 118K a month ago. My old doctor has retired, new doctor wants to try IVIG. Any reason to think it might work this time?

Well, it could. The dosage and brand can make a difference. However, IVIG is almost always temporary, lasting from a few days to a few weeks. If you feel the need to buy a little bit of time, you could try it. If not, discuss another treatment option with your doctor.
