Does anyone have A-fib and ITP? was created by DaveITP
I had a stroke last November during N-plate treatments. My counts went as high as 435K, I stop treatments and back on Prednisone and my counts are back down to around 40. I am under more testing to determine if I have A-fib, looks like I do have it. Can i receive blood thinners? I can live with low counts and have been for 15 years so I know what to watch for.

Dave:

Sorry to hear about the stroke. Yes, you can use blood thinners. It's difficult to juggle, but we've had people here with ITP who had to use blood thinners for various reasons. You have to try to keep your platelet counts around a certain level (usually 50k to 100k) and also keep your INR in range. Your doctors should be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.
