Rituxan & numbness was created by tkine
I had my first Rituxan treatment yesterday. I had a reaction of sudden coughing, congestion in my chest, & head, and my face turning very red. It was taken care of with more Benadryl, Tylenol, steroids, & hydralazine (I have high BP) & restarting my treatment slowly with little problem. I noticed when drying off after my evening shower, that my lower right leg was somewhat numb & tingly from knee to toes. Oddly it was just the front & right side. Today it is a little more numb on the other side, but spotty. I am waiting on my Hema/oncologist to call back. Has anyone else had similar reactions?

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

  • I have had ITP for over 21 years. Had many treatments some put me into a remission. Had my spleen out in 2005 and had a stroke 3 months afterwards. Just fighting the fight searching for answers and hopes to live my life drug free.

I'm going Monday for my third dose of Rituxan. I don't have the numbness but I do have sores on my tongue, indigestion and my normally low blood pressure is 189/101. Are you counts holding? I had a reaction at my first transfusion of cough and throat tightness..they stopped and gave a bag of steriods on top of the pretreatment cocktail.

I just had a spleen/liver scan and have spleen tissue that has grown back from my splenectomy in 2005. I'm down to 10 mg of prednisone and hope to be jumping off this merry go round with a remission soon.

I wish you all the best! I'm praying we will all get some relief soon.

I'm sorry to hear your high BP & spleen regenerating. I'm on meds for high BP, but my BP went to 200/110 during treatment/reaction yesterday.

I'm hoping the numbness is temporary. I'm tapering my pred. also. I'm down to 10 mg also.

I will find out my counts right before my next treatment next Thursday. They were 39 last Thursday, down from 88 2 weeks before, but my hema expected my drop with the pred. taper. They were 13 2 weeks before that.

Good luck to you also! I hope your platelets behave themselves!
