Prednisone taper was created by Judy14
68 year old female with primary ITP for 2 years. Only thing that seems to work is IVIG every 6-8 weeks with daily 5mg prednisone (60mg prednisone with taper to 3, dex pulse, rituxan all failed).
Hema says 5mg long term is safe, but I still want off. Last time with taper down to 1mg, my count dropped to 4 so he doesn't want to change it. That taper was dropping slightly every 2-3 weeks for a total of about 7 months. I wonder about a longer taper of maybe 4-6 weeks or more to drop 1/2 or 1 mg. Any suggestions/experience? Thanks.

If it were me I'd get off the steroids as quickly as possible and try something else. If you can't get the TPOs, Nplate or Promacta then CellCept would be better long term than steroids which are harmful whatever the dose.
