IVIG Side Effect Mouth Sores? was created by plopper
Hi guys.
I haven't been here in awhile. I crashed in Feb, went on Pred and got things back on track, but the Pred did a number on me this time.

I just had IVIG because my immunogloblins(sp?) were very low and I was having trouble fighting things off. The IVIG went fine, no problems, but a few days after, I've developed mouth sores - I haven't had those since I had trouble with low WBCs. So unless the IVIG crashed my white counts, I have to wonder if it's a side effect of the IVIG itself.

Anyone get mouth sores with IVIG?

I never did when I had IVIG. It just made me sick, especially after I had my splenectomy.

Well, now I'm feeling super emotional, and that is usually the first sign that my platletts are crashing. My immune system was so busy fighting off the e.coli-intestina/UTi fight that it was leaving my platetless alone - they were at 687k. That's a warning sign to me that a crash is coming, having been at it a few years.

Feeling down. It's been a terrible 3 months and there doesn't seem to be any map of where this thing is taking us and I've yet to feel like we've even gotten a peek at the light of the end of the tunnel. :(

Sorry, Jill. I know exactly how you feel. One day at a time, ok?

What did you do to get to 687k?

Hey Jill,
Sorry to hear you are feeling so low.
Back in March I had an emergency appendix drama. Several days of strong antibiotics, IVIG then surgery. My mouth was sore, my 'bottom' was sore & I felt all my good gut flora had been wiped out. Improved after I got on to probiotics (double dose).
Interestingly, my natural inquisitive self didn't believe doctors when they said 'the appendix serves no useful purpose, we don't need it' & research tells me it has a role to play in digestive health!
I hope you are feeling better soon,
mj

Jill,
Do they look like they could be fungal? That sometimes comes on the heels of antibiotic treatment. Yogurt is said to help, but you may need to see the doc. If it's fungal, there's a "magic mouthwash" prescription they give (pharmacist mixes several ingredients, including antifungal stuff and others). Hope it clears on its own.
