Ok, they have me scheduled for a port on Tuesday morning. I am refractory ITP and get weekly IVIG's as of now, veins are shot... Has anyone had or have a port and what should I expect??

My mother got one last summer ahead of chemotherapy and is very happy with hers. She too has lousy veins (or is a "hard stick" as one doc put it) and was fed up with the pain and stress of blood draws. The port went in easily and without incident, and has functioned well since. She says she's not even aware of it most of the time, and is very happy about it whenever she has to have blood drawn or drugs injected. I hope you have a similar experience.

I had a port put in 4+ years ago. I only have one vein that anyone can find and I was getting Rituxan at the time so the doc suggested it. It's been used a bunch of times for various meds and for operations. Not sure it is needed anymore but it's not hurting me so why not!

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Blessings,
