Brain fog on Nplate?

Brain fog on Nplate? was created by Snorkel87
Has anyone else experienced brain fog while on Nplate? I've been on it for about 2 months now and after my third or fourth injection I developed this brain fog--my mind just doesn't feel as sharp as it usually is and I'm in an almost constant daze.

I've had several stressors that have simultaneously going on so I don't know how much of the brain fog may be related to that. I'm miserable at work, trying to find a new job, recently married. Maybe it's all just coincidence but I can't help but wonder if it may be related to the drug.

I started off with the lowest dose and my counts were hovering between 50 and 75. My count on Monday was 36 so I was given the next highest dose. I worry that my count will skyrocket and I get a blood clot somewhere. My next CBC doesn't get drawn until 1/26. My counts were stable with the lowest dose--how likely is it that it will skyrocket to a dangerous level?

It's unlikely that your counts will shoot up that high, but it's always a possibility. You're on top of it though, so try not to worry. There are quite a few people here who constantly have counts in the 200's on N-Plate and they do fine, even though that is not recommended. Just take things a week at a time.

Brain fog can be caused by many things and stress is one of them. I've had brain fog from sinus infections, not getting enough sleep, muscle tension, stress, etc. Sometimes it can take time to realize what could be the real cause. I wouldn't rule out N-Plate as a possible cause though and if it is due to that, it could be cause for concern. For now, try not to worry and talk to your doctor about it when you get a chance.

If you are one that prefers to keep counts on the lower side with N-Plate, next time try waiting out a count of 39 and stay on the same dose (if doctor allows it). You never know what might have happened the following week if you had....counts might have gone up.

Brain fog and recent marriage in one paragraph - don't let you wife or husband read you posts.
--Just kidding.

I'm using Nplate for some years now and don't have any brain fog. Maybe its a left over with from some other treatment you got, or from your general situation which sounds "stressy".

I had 300+ from Nplate and there was no trouble with that at all.
Keep in mind that your doc won't take any risks. He will make sure you are save.
I hope you can relax a little bit and that the fog clears.

Good luck
Joerg

Yeah. I wonder if I'm at the beginning stages of Lupus. My mom has it and autoimmune stuff runs on both sides of my family. I've had a lot of weird symptoms over the last few years that have come and gone. Body wide muscle twitching, this brain fog, dry eyes/foggy vision, etc. I don't think its MS as I don't have spasms or any significant pain and my symptoms are body wide rather than localized. I don't know. It's frustrating. My thyroid is fine. Nothing out of whack on my CMPs. Guess it could be a vitamin deficiency. But of course my mind jumps to the worst possible scenario and thinks I have a brain tumor or ALS or something. Ugh! And then I worry that I'm having a stroke or bleeding internally because of my ITP!

I know what you mean. I have less trust in my body since ITP came out too.

Not much one can do about that.

I can't tell you that you don't have or won't have Lupus, but most of the time, one of the first symptoms is wide-spread pain in muscles and joints. I had symptoms a year and a half before I was diagnosed because my labs just didn't support it until then. It can develop slowly. Lupus won't show up on a CMP; there are more specific tests for that.

Look at the simplest things first, a Vitamin deficiency could be the cause.

I never experienced any brain fog from NPlate just a mild headache. I suffered some brain fog however when I was on high doses of Prednisone and Dexmethasone.
