Yes, hair loss is common while tapering from Prednisone. It will stop eventually.

Yes unfortunately steroids are awful! I chose to just stop one day cold turkey years ago Bc of weight gain flushed all my prednisone down the toilet my hair fell out in the front I was hallucinating and the headaches were horrible took months for my hair to come back but it did. I hate steroids! :)

I stopped steroids in march and my hair has been very thin since then. It's just beginning to thicken out again now. I recommend frequent hair cuts to style it & frequent hot oil or other conditioning treatments. Has really helped my hair - that & time.

Interestingly I started going grey before my itp diagnosis. The whole time I was on pred I didn't get one new grey hair!!! It's the only up side I've had to the steroids!! Greys are back in abundance now so it's back to the hair dye .

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.

Prednisone can stay in your system for a while, and it messes with hormones. It's kind of like pregnancy hair loss. It should get better a few weeks after you stop the drug.

Try using lots of moisturizer. I use Agadir Argon Oil on my hair to keep it conditioned. Some Argon Oils are only silicone which can dry hair out even more, so you have to make sure it's real argon oil. Agadir is and I get it from Amazon.

I've been on prednisone for one year. I have about half the hair I normally do. I'm so thankful it's normally thicker than average, or else I'd be bald. My doc didn't seem to know it can be a side effect, either. He wanted to test my thyroid levels until I told him I just had them done the month before and were good.
There are MANY things doctors have no clue about.
