Hi has anyone when hit v low counts been on pred AND transanamic acid. I had the Transanamic Acid years ago for heavy periods and wondered if its something to carry forward and take or ask to take when counts are low or i see bruiding. Side effects are not harsh. I know its administered during or after bad traumas that may cause heavy bleeding.
Just wondered if anyone else had this combined with pred.

I have been on both together, but the transanmic acid didn't work for me, it was a few years ago but I do remember that the doctor said something about you can't take transanmic acid for too long. I took it for fibroids that wouldn't stop bleeding,
I hope you are feeling better. :)

I was given liquid tranexamic acid to use as a 'swish and swallow' but only for use when I had blood blisters in the mouth. I have no idea if it really worked or not but I loved the taste of it! It's not something to be taken on a regular basis without a need though. It needs to be treated with a bit of respect.

I asked my doctor for a prescription in case I do have a bleed. I carry it around. He said to call if I do bleed and he will explain how to use it. I know I'm paranoid, but I used to work with violent kids, so I was always afraid of bleeds when counts are low. Knock pm wood I haven't had to use it.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

It's supposed to. I was given it for nose and mouth bleeds.
