Does anyone get stiff neck with ivig? was created by Kelirae24
Ive had ivig on and off for years but now I'm getting it once a week due to pregnancy so it's pretty much my only option. I've been getting horrible stiff neck after treatment I can barely move it. I've been using heating pads and icy hot patches it helps but does anyone know what causes the side effect?

No headaches? Could possibly be aseptic meningitis, but usually people feel nauseated and have bad headaches as well.

Ellen had horrible aseptic meningitis - horrible neck ache and headache but not nausea as I recall, although that is a symptom.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal chord. I can't even hazard a guess why IVIG sometimes causes this inflammation.

If aseptic (meaning without germs) meningitis is caused by a drug, like IVIG, it is sometimes called "chemical meningitis".

Sandi, does pre-treating (with benadryl?) help ward off aseptic meningitis?

I get 50 mg of Benedryl before do you think slowing it down a bit would help? Because u know I didn't used to get this. They are giving me the ivig at a rate of 240 maybe lowering it will help
I will definately ask, I do get headaches sometimes and also whooshing in my one ear that drives me nuts I can usually take the headaches but this neck pain is really not fun I'm extremely uncomfortable

Yes, slowing it down might help. Also, drink a lot of water the day before, during, and after the infusion.

Rob, I don't know if Benedryl prevents it, but it might help to control it.
