Amber, I have been watching your posts with great interest, i am in a similar situation (except for splenectomy). 3 weeks ago i did winrho with a count of 1. 1 week later count was at 2 - so, winrho didnt work this time. did 4 day dexamethasone, got my count to 3, did ivig, then another ivig 3 days later. 1 week later, count is still 3. did my first nplate injection with a count of 3 last friday, today mouth is covered in blood blisters. (its a long weekend here in canada, so i am waiting until tuesday to call hematologist).
my questions are...
Did you do 3 days of ivig?
if yes, was it more beneficial than 2 days?
how were the side effects? - normally for me ivig is a 3 day "brainache". - but i have never done 3 days, only 2.
thanks.

I have found the key to less headaches has to do with the rate at which IVIG is given.

Example: The maximum rate I can tolerate is 150 (I think that's ml/hr). But I have them start low like at 75. The directions for administering the drug on the package actually tells medical professional to start low and then increase the speed until you meet your max rate. The max rate depends on what you can tolerate. If I exceed my max rate, I get short on breath and have a hard time breathing. That's fixed by stopping the treatment temporarily, getting some O2, and sometimes more Benadryl or 'Roids.

I would encourage you to inquire the rate/speed at which you're being given the meds and see what they say. Both Privigen and Ocatagem are like this, by the way.

Good luck!

I'd also encourage you to find out through trial and error (once you're stable) to find out what meds you can take and what meds you can't. Ex. I can't take ibuprofen or aspirin. But I can take tylenol. Some people can take the others and not suffer low platelets.

I also know that some antibiotics affect my numbers as well. That's REALLY a trial and error process. I haven't found any other catalysts thus far that affect me yet and I've been doing IVIG for 2 years now.

More IVIG's is set for Saturday, Sunday, Monday at 8am. Looks like I'll be hanging with the infusion center crew this weekend. 25k down from last week 191k.... Still on pred 50mg I have enough oxygen in my blood, so don't know why I'm winded now i have to watch for cold, cough and temp.

Remember that they're just numbers. Although they aren't as high as we'd like them to be, it sounds like you're doing ok, even if you're 25k down. Good luck. Keep your chin up! :)
