Just another day with ITP

Stopped in at LabCorp to get a platelet count yesterday, my hematologist's office just called with the results.
Whoo-hoo, a whopping 10k ! I'll check it again on Thursday.
Meanwhile.....life continues.

Looking over the past year, I see the highest was 21k, but it was mostly in the 10k-16k range.

Bummer is that I had just ordered some new broad-heads for the upcoming archery turkey season. Since I don't like handling razor sharp arrowheads out in the woods alone (when counts are 10k or below), I'll just buy a turkey at the store.
Although, I might get a paper cut doing that...those receipts are sharp too!

A while back I was getting a CBC and there was a flock of wild turkeys in the Lab Corp parking lot! really. I don't know how it would work but that somehow seems perfect for you, Jack. hospital is close by too.

We have wild turkeys all over walking down the streets around here- the towns are smallish with wooded areas around them- northern California wine country.

Ahh that is sad there is definitely a difference in taste between a store bought turkey and a wild or fresh turkey!

Couldn't you take someone with you? you do the shooting or what ever and they do the killing?

Oh no....I go into the woods to get away from people....I don't want to take any with me!
No biggie, these days I am more of a roamer than a pure hunter anyway, otherwise I'd shoot carbon-fiber arrows from one of those wheeled compound bow thingies (or use a shotgun)! I shoot cedar shafts with feathers from an old-school hickory stick bow. Ah well....I'll wait for turkey season to be over, then go out with blunt-head small game arrows in search of the wily woodchuck and cantankerous crow.

I will get another platelet count Thursday and see what happens. Probably a Dex pulse...OH JOY!

Thursday's count was 14k ! ..... I'm freakin' rolling in platelets! :whistle:

To put this in a positive manner;
I had a 40% increase in platelets over two days! 40%!! Meaningless drivel, but nonetheless true.
Now we all know there really isn't any difference between 10k and 14k, but 14k does sound better.
How did that Billy Preston tune go; "Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'.....".

I see my hematologist for a 6-month check in a couple of weeks, I'll get another count next week.
Meanwhile, 14k is basically what I've been at for a year now. No big deal.
My eyeballs aren't bleeding, I have big-new-sticky platelets, and life is just a cher-o-bowlies.

I'm also having one of these days too! My count went up too and I'm tapering off Prednisone!
