I've been working in Honolulu part time since October and I have sushi or sashimi most nights. I still have my spleen I should mention. Anyway, that article about sushi points out that the chopped tuna is crappier and has more bacteria just like chopped beef compared to steak. Worth noting and avoiding.

Meanwhile I haven't gotten sick once on sushi but two weeks ago I got food poisoning from a salad bar at a hospital in Oregon. I passed out at my client and ended up in the ER!

I know raw foods present a risk - even salads. Some of the big food poisonings in the US have been from bean sprouts and spinach.

I can't wait to have sushi again tonight :)

I knew you were going to jump on that one! I know you like your sushi.

Every time I eat a salad, I think it's E Coli on a plate. Lots of foods are risky, I agree! Sorry to hear that you got sick. You didn't report that one to me.

I know Sandi, I meant to message you! It was kind of embarrassing, I was trying to leave to go back to my hotel in between bouts of being sick and I ended up passing out in the hallway instead. Which got me to the ER where I got some anti-nausea meds. I wasn't admitted. By next morning I was weak but done puking.

I'm going back to that client week after next and I need to bring them a nice thank you gift for rescuing me.

I was diagnosed with ITP in Oct. 2013. I had blogs work on a Saturday and my platelets were 20,000...when I saw my doctor on Monday for a regular appointment, he immediately referred me to a blood specialist. I went to see her at 3:00 that Monday and my platelets dropped to 7,000. I was admitted to the hospital and received treatment. I was fine for a while, but it keeps dropping. I'm getting frustrated because I'm totally exhausted all the time. I'm a teacher and a mother of a six year old boy. I got an infusion last month...was. up to 213,000, but now I'm 35,000. My doctor brought up getting my spleen removed. I'm very tempted because the exhaustion is exhausting...hee...hee...I feel like a weak mother, wife, and teacher. It's Saturday night and I'm home...my parents have my son for a sleep over and my husband is out riding on his motorcycle...and I'm home, too tired to do anything fun. I don't know how mucg longer I can deal with the extreme fatigue.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Sooze, what kind of treatment did you have in the hospital? Have you had any other treatment?

Read all you can, on this site and others, before you opt for splenectomy. I know it may seem like forever, but 5-6 months with ITP really isn't all that long. Consider all your options.

I had a splenectomy done on the 6th of March 2014. Two days after the splenectomy, I had OPSI (overwhelming post splenectomy infection). The day after the splenectomy my platelet count was 469, a week later it was 360 and about two days later it was 249. I went for a full blood count yesterday and my platelet count was 183. I am concerned that the splenectomy did not work. I know my platelet count is normal but is it normal for the count to drop so soon and so much?

Nevs the only thing normal about ITP is that there is no normal.

Maybe your count will level out - time will tell.

OPSI sounds very serious - are you all right now?

From what I can gather it sounds like OPSI is sepsis?

It is just going to be a "wait & see" Nevs - hopefully your count will level out above normal. Try not to be concerned right now, that doesn't do you any good.

Good luck!
