I have never been on either one long term. Was just wondering what has been the longest you have been on either one? Get counts up fast?

Pred for 12 months... Got my counts up but it was a long hard battle keeping them up. I wouldn't do that again.

Had to look at my notes to remember.

Prednisone; I did it for 4 months back in 2003. Hated the stuff. Count stayed around 30k, but it did not raise quickly.
Pred was the first treatment I tried after ignoring my ITP diagnosis for a year.
(It's not advisable to ignore ITP, the stupid disorder is still there regardless.)

Dexamethasone; My 'go-to' rescue drug. A 40mg-4day pulse will usually boost me to a tad over 50k over a couple of days time. A short 40mg-2day or 20mg-4day pulse will get me into the 30k range. None of these doses are enjoyable...the stuff is just nasty...even nastier at the dosages we have to use.
A full 4-day pulse of Dex will only last me a few days after it kicks-in, then counts crash to 4k or less.
I have used regular Dex pulses as my only treatment for 5 months in late 2012 and early 2013. I would never recommend anyone do that though. It is no fun whatsoever and your counts just go up and down with the pulses.
Fantastic as a rescue treatment though!
