I'm getting curious about N-plate too. It may be my next choice of treatment if Rituxan doesn't work again. Having a stoke or blood clots is pretty scary. I asked my doctor about starting at the lowest dose possible but he said we should follow the instructions. I can usually talk him into doing what I want so I'll keep pushing. Has anyone else started low?

Protocol is to start low.. at 1 mcg per kg of body weight. There are then ten possible doses working up to 10 mcg/kg.

Have you been tested for APS? I insisted on it and have had the blood tests for it twice now, negative both times. A positive result would have worried me more.

I started low and the nurses monitored me for 1hour. I am now on 500mcgs(ithink that's the acronym).I also worried for some time, but now (after 2yrs) I am concious of the fact (clotting etc.) but not worrying at every twinge and also I am now injecting myself (Love not having to go to the hospital every week)! :)

What is APS? Whatever it is I'll ask to get tested for it ASAP.

I didn't know you could inject yourself. Can you take it home with you? I was worried about having to go to the hospital every week!

APS is common in ITP patients. It causes clotting. Other symptoms are headaches and miscarriages. If you have the antibodies then you have to be specially careful about getting high counts when using Nplate.

re: injecting yourself. There is differnt protocol in different areas of the world about injecting yourself. It depends on the doctor and if you are stable on NPlate. I had to go every week for 6 months then was taught the procedure. I still have to have monthly CBCs. I see the hema every 3 months. I pick up a months medication from the hospital pharmacy and keep it in the frig at home. I have been on NPlate for about 18 months.
