Kristine, good for your for standing your ground. What a jerk doctor. I'm glad he backed down and didn't try to insist on the infusion. Call the office in a few days to make a CBC appointment. It can take a few weeks for the Rituxan to kick in.

There are only 2 other hematologists in the county I live in. The other 2 share a practice together. I called and made an appointment to see one of them. I'm so disappointed in what happened. I think he may have gotten in trouble back in July when he prescribed IVIG and my insurance company denied it because he didn't get pre-approval. Then, 2 months ago he told me I should get my spleen out instead of trying the Rituxan again and I refused. Last week he must have completely tuned me out when I asked him to get me pre-approval for the N-plate. All he must have heard was me telling him to give me 12 Rituxan infusions. Which is not even what I said!

Good grief.

I think it's even worse that he would have been willing to give 12 Rituxan treatments. Wonder what he would have done if he thought you'd said the number 25? 40? Geez. You'd think he would have or should have questioned what he thought you said.

Try not to let it upset you. I know this is just an excuse, but maybe give him the benefit of the doubt this time. Maybe he has something bad going on in his personal life and was distracted....who knows?

Hopefully he gets on the ball this visit!

I hope you find a doctor who listens. That said be glad you are on top of things you could be just blindly following this doctor and that is just scary!

Sandi, you are right! I can't believe he may have actually given me 12 treatments. That's nutty.

After I calmed down a bit, I realized I have a standing order for a weekly CBC. Until I can see a new Hematologist I can get my regular CBCs done then call the receptionist for the counts. Unless I have really bad symptoms I'll be fine.

I have starting to consider going to the nearest big city to see a hematologist. My county is small and people "talk". I don't want to bad mouth my (old) hematologist and I certainly don't want him talking about me to the point where it might affect my care. The only problem is the commute. It would take about an hour to get there. I already miss enough work as it is now...

6th Week of Rituxi - No positive results so far. After last weeks bleeding episode (count of 8k) she got hospitalised and got platelet transfusion, post that her count reached to 40k on sunday then on Tuesday count was 20k.consulted with her doctor and prescribed for splenectomy.Doctor is saying if rituxi had to do anything it would have shown its effect within the month but it didn't so no reason to wait any longer. No response to prednosolone and increase dose of promacta (75mg). Her mouth is full of blisters now that we have not noticed even at count of 3k. Didn't have count again but assuming its too low this time and believe splenectomy is the next course of treatment for her which is scheduled for 11th of next month.
