Saving everyone the long story of my 14 years

friday is my slice and dice date

If you had a Splenectomy full cut open what kinda pain can i expect?

if you can compare it to a c-setion what am i looking at facing?

i cant tell if i am more scared of the pain afterwards or the fear of that 40%-60% "will work" window im trying to land in

I don't know the answer to this question - but I can feel your anxiety just by reading your post and so I couldn't just read and run.

I chatted to a friend who had a c-section and she said the worst bit about it was that the cut was so low, everytime she stood up, she felt all the weight of her internal organs pressing down on the incision site.

I hope that for your sake that's true and that having a higher incision means less weight and less pain for you.

Why have they opted for open surgery rather than keyhole? I'm thinking I may opt for splenectomy in the future, but had always assumed I'd be offered keyhole. Is there clinical reasoning behind the choice?

Best of luck for Friday xx

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.

Hi,

I had a laparoscopic (keyhole) splenectomy in 2003. It took me about a week to recover from the surgery and was not as bad as I expected.

Can you not have it done by keyhole?

Kind regards
Erna

there going to try keyhole but there is a 50/50 chance they might need to do a full incision because my size (weight gain from last 4 months) and liver inflammation.

C-section wasn't as bad a i expected i was on minimum pain meds and on my feet in 10 hrs so if its comparable to c-sec then i am okay :)

I had the full incision splenectomy. It was not that bad, I was on pain meds the first night and the next day was offered them but was fine with just Tylenol. I was able to get up some the first day.

I never had a c section but I would think the pain would be about the same, about the same size incision.

I think the anticipation is the worst part.

Best of luck for Friday! Hope they can do the keyhole surgery but mostly luck that you are in the success group! The rates do vary and it is so anxiety producing waiting to undergo it not knowing if it will work for you! But be as positive as you can! I remember feeling what I would imagine is as anxious as you are and not much can make it better but know many people, even strangers here will be thinking of you and sending good wishes your way!

I also had keyhole and pain was very manageable so here's hoping you find the same experience!
