Update on Cam (17 dx with ITP 4 mos ago - feels like years). Cam has tried IVIG, high dose steroids, Whin ro and most recently up to 75mg of promacta. All were considered unsuccessful although he had longest results with promacta - stayed between 10-25 for 3 weeks, all others were usually single digit within a week. So... Today he got his first dose of N-plate. Started at 250mg but dr thinks he will need to get 750mg to make a difference. I've read the side effects, the concerns and now I want to hear from the real experts, those of you who have either experienced the meds or have children who have. Also Cam played basketball yesterday (platelets were 18) and without falling or feeling like he was bumped he developed a baseball size lump on his right elbow (of course he thought looked super cool) that was full of fluid and now is a huge black bruised bump. The doctor did see it today but has anyone else experienced this time of injury?

I moved this to the treatment section for adults because your son is very close to being one (and you had it in the section for problems with the Forum).

It sounds like he has a hematoma; some people have had those.

I don't have any experience with N-Plate, but there are others here who have!

I have Nplate - and with all the treatments I have had, this is the one FOR ME; there are other people where it hasn't worked. I have not had any side effects having been on it for 2 yrs. The doc did the right thing with giving him the lowest dose and then hopefully monitoring closely for several months with follow up blood tests until numbers stabilize (mine took about 4mths)
Hope all goes well, high platelets, Christine :)
