  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Britain's National Institute for Clinical Excellence has finally come out in support of Revolade (Promacta, eltrombopog) for ITP patients who meet certain criteria. Here are two links to the press releases. The second link says you need to be a medical professional, but I clicked "yes," and it didn't ask for my credentials!

When my hematologist suggested I try Promacta, I told him I was waiting for NICE's report, so I'd have more info to help me decide. Now I have a little more.

I'm not sure that NICE recommendations are the best to go with as NICE bases their decisions on cost effectiveness and has only approved it because the manufacturer will give the NHS a discount. Fist time the manufacturer applied, the discount wasn't forthcoming and they were refused.
