Pred withdrawal or cellcept side effect?

Hi all

I'm hoping one of you experienced ITP-ers can help. I stopped prednisolone 9 days ago - cold turkey. I was only taking 5mg a day, but have been on them since dec 6th last year - no breaks.

I started cellcept (mycophenolate) 9 days ago and I'm now on 750mg twice a day.

My symptoms are: feeling tired (assuming withdrawal), feeling short of breath (assuming withdrawal) and I have a weird and very, very itchy rash on my neck. It's red, and flares up , then goes down. Some moments of the day are redder and more itchy than others. There seem to be a couple of very small, white, raised areas of skin in there too. It's driving me nuts!! I'm going to visit a doctor to get it looked at with all the warnings that cellcept increases the risk of skin cancer, just to be safe.

Anyone else had any similar symptoms? It's the rash that's really bothering me. Did it take long to get over the pred withdrawal?

Thanks, kat :-)

Well, some of them sound like Prednisone withdrawal...the fatigue and shortness of breath. The rash could be due to CellCept, but I wouldn't know for sure. I doubt you'd get skin cancer that fast due to CellCept, but it could be an allergic reaction. Best to see the doctor.

After you've mentioned allergic reaction, I've realised that the rash isn't so bad after I've taken my antihistamine (for hayfever). Have just emailed my consultant.

Thanks sandi :-)

It could be that the prednisone was suppressing some allergic reaction and now it is causing you problems without the prednisone.

Seems is was a cough/bug. Hubby and daughter had the cough too but not the rash. Has all gone away now.

Bizarre!!

But thought I should update :-)
