Doctor is already talking about n-plate if Promacta doesn't work. Just wanted to make sure I have this right, it is an injection weekly forever? With blood work same day? The rx company has already ok me for the no insurance program. But my concern is getting blood work weekly.

Amber,

Unfortunately it is weekly and it is an Injection with weekly blood work. It has been the only thing to work for me. The only side effect I have had is lower back pain the next day or two after.

I would not say that it has to be forever. Many things can happen that would change that. Some people do go into remission.

Sandi,

I think you had posted an article a few months ago about Nplate and remission. It said something like up to 20% of people on Nplate reach remission within two years. I will have to look back and find it.

Amber,

I know this is hard. Per my dr, take one treatment at a time. Try to be positive/hopeful that Promacta will work for you. I know it's stressful, but I'm trying to not jump ahead of myself. I have my labs next week to check my liver and count. I hate getting labs and waiting for the results! Good luck with yours next week!

i was on nplate for 2 years, i eventually weened down to blood work every other week. it can be tiresome. i would have to run to get blood work before work and then try to make work on time, then rush out of work to make it to get my injection on time. i eventually stopped taking it because i got pregnant, but it worked, it can get irritating sometimes though.
good luck.

I'm down to a blood test every 8 weeks and an injection which I do at home myself every 3 weeks. I don't expect to be on Nplate for life.

What you should do is get an understanding of your treatment plan. What is the plan, why use certain medications, and how can the doctor tell what is working? What is the goal of treatment, to get you to what count? If you are at 52 why change?

You should have a conversation with your doctor.

I talked to the nurse today and she said he likes N-plate better than Promacta but I was under the impression that as long as my count is are 50k I was fine. I know but meds can only keep you around 50K. And yeah have me take 40mg of Dex on Sunday that will just mess up the counts. If I don't take the Dex and re check count on Wednesday shouldn't we know if the Promacta is working at that point? That is really was I am thinking of doing. But if they do fine a way for me to get the injections under a program that will cover the CBC cost I may just end up doing that.

Your doctor seems a bit confused maybe? I don't know why you'd need Dex at 52k, and it will mess with your Promacta numbers. I think a good conversation is needed.

Got my 5th N-Plate today, last week counts at 35k today 22K. Last week 5mcg/mg today 6mcg/mg. How long does it take to kick in if this is going to work?
