It's not actually the UK, it's England and Wales. Scotland has its own advisory body and has recommended the use of eltrombopag for several years.

Strangely the drug is only recommended for the splenectomised or for whom a splenectomy is contraindicated, so those who choose not to have a splenectomy still have to use romiplostim. It will be interesting to see if in practise that happens. I suspect it will depend on which drug is cheaper but we won't know that because the discount given to the NHS by both drug companies is a secret!

Thanks for the clarification. I'm still unsure of the differences between all of the places covered by NICE. At least some people can benefit now.
