Hi PDSA FAMILY,just came from seeing my hema, after being diagnosed in 9/25/2012 and while my counts stayed the same after a week 15000 I go in to discuss other treatment options and he starts talking spleen removal I was angry because only thing they have tried was dex for 4 days 4 two weeks that didnt work, a 5 day IVIG that took me up to 105 for about a week( temporary fix,) then up'd the pred from 40mg to 100mg that didnt work so after a month back down to 40mg now they want me to try danazol to be able to take me completely off pred he says he needs me out of critical since I cant stay out the single and low teens wanted to give me some medicine that I would take just in case I go for the spleen removal I said NO wanted to give me a flu shot I said NO(last time I did that I caught the flu)I say y not try rituxan he says danazol is safer than rituxan but the side effects of danazol were bout the same as pred but included blood clots he says we can try that to but think about spleen removal 75 percent find it successfull said yeah for how long a year rituxan can do that he knew I had been doing my homework ..thx PDSA so he finally said whatever u want I am working for you...anyhoot I would like to know if any women are taking this treatment and what were your side effects and did it raise counts long term or is it another band aid

Kim:

I didn't think Danazol was quite as bad as Prednisone, but some of the side effects are the same. I wasn't on it very long, I broke out in hives. Anyway, it rarely works and can take a long time to kick in. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.
