Does going off prednisone (after being on it for 9 months) cause any muscle issues? I went off of it 2-3 weeks ago (after tapering for about a month) and lately it feels like all my muscles are sore. I am also more tired than normal. Though on a positive note, my hair is not falling out as much as it was while I was tapering! That is nice.

Wasn't sure if anyone else experienced anything similar after stopping steroids??

Oh yes, typical steroid withdrawal symptom. It will go eventually.

Definitely. Those are two of the main taper side effects. It can be difficult to get through it, but you will.

My muscles were really bad for about 3 months after prednisone, then I was fine. I couldn't turn my head while driving, and could barely stand up after sitting a few minutes.

Yep - extreme fatigue, I felt like I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without pausing half way. You're lucky your hair has stopped falling out - it took months for mine to stop (probably lost about 30% before it finally stopped falling out)!

I also suffered from depression as well - hope that doesn't happen for you. I read that this was not uncommon and it was a real zinger for me, but because I knew it was coming each time I was able to trudge through. Honestly, that is one of the biggest reasons I try to not take prednisone now.

I did find during a taper /stop from prednisone that if I got up very early and did a morning walk, it helped me to get going each day. Otherwise I felt like my brain was in a fog. Morning walks also helped my muscles.

Try to not over-do the caffeine, which is hard because of the immediate boost you get, but sugar, caffeine, etc just made everything take longer for me. I tried to eat really healthy, not drink, lots of water, and vitamins and Emergen-C.

You'll get through it - good luck!

Alex - it can last for weeks or months. Everyone is different. I worked through it and remember that it was an effort to even sit at the desk all day. It does eventually end though. One day at a time....

Thank you guys for all the info! My muscles have started to feel a little better now. I am one month off the prednisone. I am still more tired than normal, but I had my blood done this week and I am now anemic, so the dr thinks that may be a part of it as well. The good news however is my platelets are 252! So as long as those are good, a little anemia is nothing!
