Does anyone know how long prednisone keeps your platelets high. Do they usually drop once prednisone is stopped? This is my daughters first time on prednisone.

It differs for everyone. I have seen people take Prednisone and never have a drop in counts again. Sometimes it lasts a few weeks, months, or years. Sorry we can't give anything better than that, but that is reality.

For me Prednisone did not increase counts much and when I tapered, counts decreased. Treatment for ITP is a wait and see game. What works for some may not work for others.

I had prednisone nearly two years ago, counts stayed up and only the last couple of counts have gone down. The last count was in the 120 to 130 range, still a great count.

Prednisone put me in a mini-remission [counts about 85k - 125k] for about 9 years, then a tetanus booster tanked my count.

So you can see - this isn't one size fits all ;)

Prednisone...may or may not do good to your daughter as its positives varies from individual to individual. But one things for sure it has too many side effects which i believe the person who is taking these medicine should be aware of. Two spoon of papaya leaf juice is very helpful in increasing platelets with no side effects, i tried it myself and got a significant increase in my count.

Take care

I believe everyone reacts a bit differently in this respect when it comes to Prednisone.
