"the empty space" after splenectomy

I went to the surgeon today.. It was a female and I thought she was kind off weird.. She came across as kind of authistic or something.. But she did know what she was talking about:P

So I asked her what happens to the space left by the spleen when it's taken out.. She said it's filled with the loose fat that's covering your intestens.. and she also said this should have no consequences for the other organs..

I'm seeing the anastetic tomorrow for some pre-surgery tests.. And I'll probably have to wait around 6 weeks before they can take the damn thing out.. :S
When I asked the surgeon what she expected me to do the next 6 weeks since my counts are bellow 10 atm.. she said she'd make sure they'd operate ASAP.. and if a person cancels a operation they'll give me that spot..

Yes they are available..
Nplate to me is kind of useless.. of a last solution thing cus it won't cause a remission. As soon as you stop taking it your counts will drop again.. So you'd have to take it for the rest of your life..

Where do you live?

Hey Joya! I just had my spleen taken out Tuesday. It went really well...much better than I had anticipated...and my platelets are in the normal range for the first time in 3 years! If you want more info about the surgery please drop me an email and I'll tell you all about mine. I was only in the hospital for 2 days!

Hey Joya! Don't be too nervous. My nurse and anesthesiologist pretty much freaked me out with the 'this could happen, and this could happen' but in the end it was a totally normal procedure. I went to sleep very quickly in the or and woke up 4 hours later done! I was up and walking the next day (slowly with a pillow supporting my tummy...but walking) and eating lots of Popsicles. I got to go home after 2 days and with the help of the pain meds am doing really well I think. It will go well for you too....they do this operation ALL the time and you'll do fine. Best of luck friend!

Platelet count prior to surgery was 73,000. Two days later when I was released it was 186,000! I haven't been in the normal range for three years and am thrilled!!

Reminds me when I had a spenectomy... The doc asked how I felt. Told her it felt like a part of me was somewhere else..... like on a remote shelf in a bottle alcohol.
