I got diagnosed with itp about a year ago. Initially watchful waiting, but when Iater on got a primary cytomegalovirus infection and suspect endocarditis my itp started acting up and thrombocytes dove and I was put on highdose steroids alongside antibiotics. The infections healed, and the doctors tried to taper my steroids. Finally down to
5 mg after 4,5 months I got a new episode of petechiae and low platelets. Back up on high dose steroids and all of à sudden there was a great hurry in geting me started on rituximab even though i never had any major bleeding issues. The infusions have gone fine- just finished my third, however my biggest issue is great fatigue, inability to concentrate for any longer period of time, lousy shortterm memory, irritability and bad patience.Sure, i was really tired while tapering the steroids during the spring, but i was at least able to work, now i am completely out! I am only 33 and the mother of two sons 1 and 3 yrs old.... Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if this cognitive impairment weans off?? I have avsked My doctors and they havent heard of this. Thanks for any reply!

No, I did not have that problem. It's possible that you have something else going on - low B-12, low potassium, low iron...have you had any blood work recently?

You might want to have some of the things Sandi mentioned checked. I found that my Iron was low and was put on Ferrous Sulfate. When the Iron level increased, I felt alot better. I am off of it now and the Iron is within range. I was on it for a couple years.
I have had two rounds of Rituxan and have experienced some of the same side affects you mentioned. I have also been on an antidepressant for several years. Not sure what the long term side affects of that is.
What were your counts at to make the Rituxan so urgent?
