Saddened by this week's platelet count was created by chasty
3 weeks ago my count was up to 335k. My hematologist said I didn't have to come in for blood work or to see her for 3 weeks. Today when I went back in my count is down to 77k. She is upping my Promacta dose from 50mg to 75mg daily. I have to go in for blood work each week for the next 3 weeks and then see her again on the 3rd week. If my counts aren't going back up she wants to send me to the surgeon.

Don't be discouraged, the idea of Promacta is to get a count of 50 or so, so you are doing okay. I'd be happy with that and wouldn't take a higher dose just yet but that's just me.

77k isn't a bad count. She may want to send you to a surgeon but do you want to go?

for me 77K is WOW. I used to be on 3K and upto 8K for weeks

77k on 50mg Promacta is above what Glaxosmithkline designed the drug to do.
Why up the dose to the max 75mg? Is the hope to achieve results which the drug wasn't designed to achieve?

IIRC; the highest I've gone with Promacta was 67k on a 75mg dosage. Dropped the dose back to 50mg and get between 40k and 50k from that. Stayed with that dosage for the past year and a half.

"Normal' is overrated. :D

This week the increase to 75mg has increased my count to 119k!
