  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Had you had hives before? Have you seen an allergist?

In my experience with hives, the medical personnel who administer treatments claim there could be no connection between the treatments and the hives--usually citing time as the reason ("two weeks is too long"). But my allergy doctor has felt that things stay in our bodies lots longer than is usually thought, and that those treatments were probably the culprits.

Kelli Rae,
I've heard that if you have an allergic reaction like that, (especially the throat swelling closed is concerning), that you are at greater and greater risk of having an increasingly more serious reaction with each exposure. Some doctors would say to not risk that and discontinue any further infusions.

Have you ever considered looking into homeopathy? Quite a few have had success with treating their ITP (or their Kid's). There are no side effects or risks, and since it is based on an individual's unique characteristics and symptoms, it is customized for each person. With a correctly chosen remedy, you should see improved health on all levels--it doesn't just have an effect on your platelets, but is truly a wholistic medicine.
You can read more about it in the Natural Treatments section

Kelli - I certainly hope they don't try to give you Rituxan again. Getting that last treatment is not imperative. There are studies that show that one treatment may be enough for ITP. It just takes time to work (if it is going to).
