Promacta - benefit from restarting?

My daughter has been on Promacta since 6/7/12. Doctor took her off after some ups and downs and recent down to 9,000 with 75 mg and predinsone also. Now she is just on prednisone, and that doesn't seem to be working too well either. Does anyone know if a benefit from restarting Promacta after being off a month? Promacta did give her almost a "normal" life for 5 months.

If it were me I'd come off the pred and stick to the promacta. These new drugs do take some time to get stable and also can have blips. But I wouldn't do pred given the choice and definitely not long term.

What Ann said.
It took me awhile to stabilize when I first started Promacta. You don't say what the up and down numbers are....but remember that the goal with Promacta is to get one to a safe level (around 50k), not a 'normal' level.
However, some people simply do not respond to it. Nplate would be the next option to try.
BTW: "6/7/12" is 4 months away in the future still. :)

I am not taking Promacta because it is so expensive. How do you afford it?

I get mine through CVS/Caremark Pharmacy. The nurses at your docs office should be able to help you with checking around for places that will help with the cost.

I get help through the Patient Access Agency N. Carolina. But the manufactor might have a program that would help or tell you where to get the help with the high pay cost of the med. Good luck
