No N-Plate Coverage 2012 was created by tgurin12
I just got off the phone with my insurance company. They said Medicare and Medicaid are not covering N-Plate in 2012!!!!!!! If anyone has heard differently, please let me know, but this is what I was told.

Do you have the option of getting a Medicare Supplemental insurance? And, if you, would this be covered? It's really scary what's happening here in the U.S.

Bev, aren't you in ONT.? I thought I had heard that there was coverage for Rituxan there. I got covered for the Rituxan through the hospital where I was treated. I'm in NB. My hema pushed for it. One of the other people I know who has ITP was all set to go to Ont. for treatment as it was available there but not here.

Rituxan is cleared in Alberta, but N Plate is not. I am fortunate my husband`s plan covers 80% and the other 20% is covered by a program where we are under a certain income level so I don`t have to pay. :)
Nplate worked for me for a couple of months and now my counts have dropped considerably, is this to be expected - I was really excited when my counts were up, the injections meant I didn`t have to endure my IVIG every two weeks (AKA trips to the SPA)so now I am a downer!!
I contacted my Provincial MLA as to why NPlate was not covered when it is considerably less expensive than the IVIG and was sent a load of political gobblydook plus the findings of the CEDAC drug review which approved of it in principal but did not approve it as they had no results on long term effects:unsure:

I think in the U.S. that N-Plate is a lot more expensive than IVIg. I had heard that the cost is somewhere near $10,000 a week (but not quite sure--read this last year). Also, N-Plate is just suppose to keep your platelets at a "safe" level; that is its main purpose.
