Prednisone side effects was created by mhilsabeck
It's been a year and two months, but I'm finally off Prednisone since Tuesday, Sept 13. I've noticed some changes since getting off the drug, excessive hair loss, breakouts, sensitive gums. I was wondering if anyone else has had side effects of coming off the drug.

I do have side effects from coming off prednisone, not the same ones you mentioned. I have muscle aches, fatigue, headaches. I think it is pretty common to have some issues especially since you have been on for so long. Your body has to adjust.

Can I ask a question for those that have been on pred for awhile. I have been on a month, 2 times high doses and now I am being tapered off and down to 10 mgs a day. I have gained 10 pounds and my stomach looks like I am pregnant. Has this happened to anyone else. I dont think it helps my stomach that I am on a huge dose on antibiotics for H-pylori... Let me know if this is normal, thanks

Yes, it's normal. Prednisone redistributes body fat and causes water retention. Some of it comes off when you stop the drug and some of it you may have to work at. How high was your dose? That's unusual for only a month, but everyone is different.

Sometimes if your counts drop as you're getting tapered, have your doctor slow your taper. Happened to me and I had to go to the hospital. Also beware of stretch marks. If you know you might be on Pred for awhile or have questions about the side effects there's a book called coping with prednisone and it's a really great book letting you know what to expect.
